Homeschool 101

With so many of us discovering homeschooling, there is one thing important to remember:  you can teach your children, because GOD is sovereign.  HE is in control.  HE made you, and gave you the children you have.  That means you are exactly the Father or Mother which your child needs.

GOD has given you what you need to train up your children!

"My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother"  ~ Proverbs 1:8 KJV

Throughout Scripture, it is always Fathers and Mothers who hold the primary responsibility for education.

As more of us begin to take on this role, here are some ideas / tips:
  • character is more important than academics
  • use the Bible; GOD's Word is truth
  • you do not have to recreate the school system; each child is different - be flexible
  • read to your children, have them read aloud
  • be patient
  • be encouraging
  • look for practical teaching opportnities
    • grocery list -> writing, math (budget)
    • letter to Grandma -> grammar, punctuation
  • pray together
  • use this opportunity to create a routine of daily Family Worship
  • look for Homeschool groups in your area
  • Links
Most importantly, the purpose of Education is to teach our children to know GOD.  Proverbs chapter one says "the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom"!

This is our goal!

"And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.  (6)  And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:  (7)  And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."  ~ Deuteronomy 6:5-7 KJV
